I am a person who was diagnosed with DID nearly 12 years ago. I have many alters, though only a handful actually have presented or spoken. They present themselves in two basic groups. We are what is known as a "Co-conscious" host/alters. This means that I am aware of them and they of each other and what is going on. I believe that by all agreeing to this, it has helped to limit or stop the need for "switching" from all of the alters present. This may not be the case for others, but...
